My mother-in-law Olive, died from COPD in 2016 aged 60, the 2025 Dublin City marathon fell on the October Bank Holiday weekend, the same weekend I turned 60. So, I got a brain wave that I would run the marathon in memory of Olive, in aid of COPD and to raise awareness and do some fundraising at the same time for this wonderful organisation. That would be my drive and determination to succeed.
My training started on the first of July 2025, running 4 days per week for the next 4 months ending with the marathon itself on the 26th of October. I got great encouragement from people donating money for my fundraising, and when times got tough during the marathon, it was those people, COPD and especially Olive that kept me going.
I would like to thank COPD for allowing me to fundraise on their behalf, to everyone who sponsored me and especially my family for putting up with me during the 4 months of training, it was an honour and a pleasure, thank you all so much.
